Greene Acres Community Garden to Hold 10-year Anniversary Celebration and Beautification Fundraiser  

BROADVIEW HEIGHTS, Ohio — On Tuesday, March 28, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Valenti's Italian Ristorante, 203 E. Royalton Road, the gardeners of Greene Acres will celebrate ten years of coaxing tomatoes, beans, carrots and all other sorts of produce from the fertile soil of the beloved green space.

The $25 admission includes pizza, salad, and a drink ticket (wine/beer/soft drink)—and a $10 tax-free donation to help finance a new natural stone curb for the front of the garden. The addition will be a nice complement to the entrance gate upgrade the group completed last year.

Everyone is invited to this fun get-together, which is open to the public. Registration forms are due by March 14, along with payment. Space is limited, so don't delay.

"While we all love hanging out in the garden, we decided to do something fun and different to mark our tenth year," said Greene Acres President Erin Nowjack. "In addition to enjoying Valenti's terrific pizza—and great company—attendees will be helping us make our latest project a reality," she said, noting the scope includes much-needed maintenance for the parking area in addition to the stonework.

Nowjack also expressed the group's thanks to the City of Broadview Heights, which will be donating crushed gravel and asphalt for that maintenance. "The City has been with us from the beginning and we appreciate their partnership more than I can say," said Nowjack. 

In addition, the organization is in the midst of its annual plot renewal and registration period, which runs through the February 28 deadline. Persons interested in becoming part of this organic community garden can view and download the registration packet for more information and to reserve a spot on the waiting list. Launched in 2013, Greene Acres Community Garden Inc. is an organic operation that includes more than 90 plots and 70 gardening members. In addition, the 14,400-square-foot green space features a monarch waystation, rain barrel, education plots, composting bins, and standing plots for members with limited mobility. Since the organization's inception, Greene Acres gardeners have supported area foodbanks with donations of fresh produce. Those donations reached approximately 1000 pounds over the past few years.
